SEO is an important aspect of Internet Marketing, and what many people don’t understand is how time consuming and laborious much of SEO actually is. It’s not sexy, it’s not easy, it’s detailed, deliberate and some times down right dull. Woohoo! Did I ever pick a peachy career *wink*

But seriously, the analysis of information and how it connects to other clusters of information is a fascinating subject to some - and I’m one of those odd folks that gets a major kick out of helping others market themselves and their business online…

Which is why I’ve been tracking the chatter online about this new piece of ‘killer SEO’ software called Market Samurai. (click image to enlarge)

Dance 2008: Where The Hell is Matt?

Dance 2008: Where The Hell is Matt?

Dancing 2008: It started as a lark, a goof, a joke, but this video (created by Matt Harding) is nothing of the sort. It’s now a bona fide feel good, shot-in-the-arm dose of hope and inspiration. At 4m29s in duration, the haunting sound track and video collage of Matt Harding dancing his goofy jig around the world has touched a chord and the hearts of millions.

This wasn’t what I’d planned to write today, but after sipping my morning coffee and watching this video (thanks to Ken for sending me the link) I felt I should share it too. Not so much for it’s artistic merit - but for the impact and implications I see. Consider this…

My NASCAR Theory of SEO and Internet Marketing

important messageWhich is better: a 100% custom website or a customized “stock” solution? I’d vote for the customized stock solution over the 100% custom solution any day. And here’s why…

I have a strong aversion to Version 1 code installs. I’d rather version 2, and 3 is better - 4.5 is better still. 100% custom coding is always V1 and first generation code sucks. It’s buggy. It’s usually incomplete. It has user interface issues. The error trapping is rubbish. It locks up. It crashes. Want proof?

seo services ukSEO Services for the UK from Canada? Yes indeed…

Recently when I was reviewing my web stats, I noticed a new stream of traffic about SEO and SEM and this time it was coming in from over seas - the UK to be precise.

In fact I noted seo services in the UK was a popular term for my site and a bit of digging revealed partly why this was true.

web internetSeriously folks… I understand it’s confusing - I do. But for the love of all things technical, the Web is NOT the Internet! The Internet was invented by Al Gore… sorry, wrong history. The Internet was invented around the same time my mother surprised my father with those immortal words “Honey, you’re going to be a Daddy!” … Ahh the late 60’s, odd music, liberal social norms and the birth of James and the Internet.

Is Your Web Designer Harming Your Business?

web designWhy? How? Because they’re involved in software development. And before you start wondering what I’m talking about, I’d like to remind you that your web site (although cool) is nothing more than a software program running on a computer. And ever since people started writing software there have been very well defined roles and skill sets.

Now don’t worry, I’m not going to bore you with roles and skills definitions for software development, however I am going to make it easy for you to figure out the type of web resources you may have at your disposal and whether they are helping your business - or unknowingly harming it (just in case you were wondering.)

Mobi Dick or Futuristic Prognosticator?

This dot-mobi discussion has become quite interesting. People are even quoting this blog (which is always nice) I think however that a few people are missing the point about a comment I made re “splitting the internet.”

Basically there is no technological reason for implementing a .mobi domain, in fact if you’ve spent money and resources “branding” yourself with a .com you’d be well advised not to mess with a good thing. Computers are smart enough to figure out the browser being used to ‘read’ a website and can programmatically switch the viewer to a more appropriate page.

This means if you access a website with a PDA the site can say “hey… look… a PDA is being used to browse this page. Hmmm, let’s move them to the specially created PDA friendly part of this website.” And poof, as if by magic, you are redirected to a new area on the site. Sometimes this is a subdirectory to help you “comprehend” what happened - like http://mobile.webdomain.com but it doesn’t have to be.

The domain names were meant to assign an extra level of information about the website you were visiting - some still do. But more and more they are becoming blurred by the masses, so WHY bother confusing your market with YET ANOTHER DOMAIN choice.

Enforced 10 digit dialing was a pain in the rear, and asking people to “dial another website” just because they chose to browse from their PDA versus their laptop is NOT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Technology is smart enough to become invisible for many solutions - this is one of them.

And who wants to maintain two sets of website bookmarks ??? NOT ME.

GrandCentral Is to Phone Numbers What Gmail Was to Email

Today I simply wanted to share with you an exciting new technology: GrandCentral is to phone numbers what Gmail was to email! I pre-registered for GC many moons ago and currently am part of the beta test. If you’d like a special invite to get in before the rest of the world (yes I have a few insider passes left) - just ask. Here’s the official GC info, check this out…

GrandCentral gives you “One Number…for Life” - a phone number that is not tied to a device or a location, but is tied to you. Use GrandCentral to centralize your communication, customize how your callers are treated, and make sure you never miss a call you want to take (or take a call you want to miss).

GrandCentral will let you define which phones ring, based on who’s calling, and even let you ListenInTM on voicemail before answering the call.

You can also block calls from certain numbers, route different groups of callers to ring different phones (Friends, Family, Work or Others), switch calls between phones on the fly, record your calls, customize voicemail greetings for different callers, change ringback tone, and save all of your voicemail messages for life.
