The Highlander EffectQueen belts out “Who wants to live forever?” in the movie Highlander and Connor MacLeod (I think that was his name…) demonstrates repeatedly that immortality is not only a cool way to win over the ladies (???) but it’s highly profitable too.

In one scene, MacLeod’s paramour is exploring his home and marvels at the vast array of priceless historical items he has on display. Of course if you’d been creeping around for hundreds of years your home would have some interesting artifacts too.

social mediaOn May 15, 2008 I attended the Interactive Marketing Conference hosted by InfoPresse - the subject was Social Media. The event included such luminaries as Chris Anderson, Bryan Segal, Paul Gillin and a panel of experts including Jesse Hirsh, Dawna Henderson, David Jones, Michael Kasprow and Keith McArthur.

I took pages of notes as each presenter addressed the room and shared their insights, views and opinions. Bottom line, the event was well run and worth attending. Their special algorithm uses a proprietary blend of over 50 different variables, including search engine data, website structure, approximate traffic, site performance, and others. Here’s the grade they just gave this site — I have room to improve:

Google Alerts Replace Old Clipping Service

Before the Internet existed there was a business service called “clipping” and what the clipping companies did was scour the newspapers and influential publications of the time clipping content. They’d look for information you had specified (clip it out) and send it to you. This was a fantastic way to get critical information about important matters. It was leading edge for its day…
