The Internet: The Biggest Super Virus of All Time?

65 Million Years ago the world’s dominant species - the Dinosaur - became extinct. There is no real knowing why they disappeared ‘overnight’, but disappear they did. The popular theory was a planet killer asteroid - an impact hit so great it literally knocked the life out of the Earth. Another theory was a super virus did the deed. Maybe it was both?

Today, modern dinosaurs face the same possible fate, but this time there is a new name for the agent of our possible demise - the Internet. In addition, unless we embrace this evolutionary leap, we too face extinction without question, without quarter.

Nevertheless, this is not news this is already history. The Internet has already made an impact so great that its shockwaves are still rolling around the world, and there appears to be no sign of stopping the wave of change. And like the dinosaur “asteroid + virus” theory, there are shocking similarities…

“Beer Storming” and Sith Marketing

j0405344_small.jpgA few weeks ago I was sitting in my office… OK, it was the pub… with a client… OK, it was a buddy, and we were having a very serious conversation. OK, we were laughing our proverbial a**es off, and a good way through some very nice import beers and heading full speed ahead to that very special state of mind I call “Beer Storming.”

It’s like brain storming - only stupider.

***

Now don’t misunderstand, my buddy and I are not inebriates, we know our limits. When you fall over and can’t tell the floor from the ceiling - you’re cut off. We were no where near that.

We were however discussing a fascinating idea: What would it take for me to join the ‘dark side’ of marketing? What would turn me into a Sith Marketer? (For those who are not Star Wars fans… a Sith was the Bad Jedi Night.)

A Simple Content Marketing Strategy

The Internet is a network of interconnected nodes of information (content.) The more densely interconnected the information becomes (the density factor) the more useful and valuable it is.

Data + Interpretation = “Meaningful” Information

The InternetWithout ‘parroting’ the obvious, content (meaningful information) is what people seek online. And in all fairness what people really seek is an answer to some question. Further compounding the challenge is the fact people use words and phrases natural to them - not to a computerized search engine.

It’s quite the conundrum… What key unlocks the door to untold ’search’ riches?

Cornerstone Key Phrases

Keyword phrase demand and supply is at the cornerstone of content provision and armed with an understanding of the search terms, and the modalities of the user’s presentation (how a person perceives the world), you can begin to provide answers to their questions in the form of articles, white papers, blog postings, forum inserts and so on.

The SecretI know, you figure “What a load of BS…Like he has the secret…” but you still had to look didn’t you - just in case I do have the secret. After all, how painful would it be to think that the answer to all your problems was offered to you at no cost and you were too stubborn, too closed minded to even give it a chance?

What’s the harm in looking? It’s not like I want anything for the information :

So let’s begin, before you change your mind. Here goes…

Google vs eBay: A Search Title Fight?

Maybe I’m a little tired, perhaps my brain is just not firing on all 3 cylinders today but it seems to me there might be a storm brewing on the search horizon, and it might be between two giants of apparently non-competing product lines… or are they?

Follow along here, I’m thinking as I type (never good, but often funny…)

Contender #1 - Google, arguably the worlds biggest search engine (in the western world - Baidu.com is apparently #1 in China) makes a large portion of its revenues from monetizing human curiosity: We know this as “search.”

People logon to Google.com and type in search phrases for things they want and presto - Google shows them what’s on the search menu that day. And no that was not a sideways comment at the ever changing landscape of SEO… although now that you mention it ;)

The Search Heartbeat

No question, Google has its finger on the pulse of search, it knows what people are looking for - you could say it knows what we want. But does it really?

Hello, You’re On The Air With James!

OK, so today I thought you’d like to know about a technology I think is seriously cool - AUDIO. I know… awesome isn’t it. I’ll be blogging about “talking pictures” next ;)

Back when I was a kid they had these flat black platters with little grooves in them (Ah… So that’s where the term ‘groovy’ comes from.) Anyway, these records allowed us to listen to music over and over. It was bliss.

Then in the mid 80’s we went digital and I recall my first music CD, it was “Brothers In Arms” by Dire Straits. Fast forward another two decades and we are now streaming audio across the web… which brings me to this: Blog Talk Radio

A fusion of live audio streaming over the Internet, time-shifted pod-casting and a call in Radio Show!

I’ve had a BTR account for a while but with one thing and another, I’ve not had the time to get things running as I’d like. Well I’m hoping to change all that now. As you know if you’ve read this website, I regularly speak at various events and seminars, and just a few years back I was conducting telephone interviews with companies for a magazine client I was writing for at the time. I would learn what made the company great and then publish their article in the respective magazines. HOLD THAT THOUGHT…

To make a long story short… this new audio technology, combined with blogging and other Internet marketing initiatives, compounds the power of your advertising and marketing efforts in a whole new way.

So here’s what I’d like to offer you for FREE. If you’d like me to interview your company - live and on air, I’ll happily do so. Here’s what will happen. You’ll get coverage on this blog, you’ll get an MP3 you can access of the recording, you can tell your customers and contacts about it your ‘coverage’, and you will create marketing buzz for yourself.

Oh, and did I mention that I’ll happily provide some marketing advice and suggestions while we’re talking? Consider it your opportunity to pick my brains while we discuss your business - powerful marketing mojo.

So if you’d like your business (or you) to be “Profiled for Success” (that’s what I’m calling this segment) then drop me line, or pick up the phone.

Finally, I will determine the schedule based on interview demand and a few other factors, so it’s first come first served. Remember, this is powerful marketing opportunity for your business - you’ll have the chance to tell the listerns why they should be calling you!

PS. Don’t think local - think English speaking. My website has international appeal too…
