<p>I was teased as a child. I was slight, sensitive, and wore braces on my teeth. When I smiled, my canines showed clearly and because I wore prescription sunglasses I earned the nickname &#8220;Drak.&#8221;</p>
<p>Back then, to avoid the taunting I escaped into my own world of words. I drank them up, became addicted to their influence, to their power to persuade.</p>
<p>To a teased young boy, the promise of freedom offered by words was to much to ignore. So I began studying professional wordsmithing &#8211; more commonly called copywriting.</p>
<p>But one more element was needed to create the formula for my future: a computer &#8211; and fortunately for me I got one for Christmas. I was hooked.</p>
<p>To this day I can still remember closing my eyes at night and seeing the green cursor blinking because I&#8217;d spent too long staring at the screen! I taught myself to program, to speak &#8216;geek&#8217; and to connect with others online.</p>
<p>In the late 80&#8242;s there was no internet &#8211; just dialup bulletin boards. Email was just starting to catch on and I was hooked once more.</p>
<p>With email technology I realized words could be amplified in their power and reach. I could connect with more people than ever before and share information and communicate more effectively than any other way available to me.</p>
<p>It was glorious.</p>
<p>I began to share my enthusiasm for technology and communication with my family and friends and because of it earned my first paid commission to create software &#8211; a database program to manage client mailing lists.</p>
<p>It was official, my course was set.</p>
<p>All through school and college I continued writing and programming. Later I moved into corporate still committed to the application of technology to help us communicate and share information.</p>
<p>I spent 17 years doing that for some of the largest companies around the world before branching out on my own in 2000.</p>
<p>Today I still work with words, I still constantly explore new and exciting technologies that help us communicate and share, and today I want to encourage you to explore the next evolution in communication: video.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ve probably noticed I&#8217;ve been using video more in my messaging lately &#8211; that&#8217;s because it works. TV and movies didn&#8217;t get to where they are today by chance &#8211; it&#8217;s the power of presence, the added visual dimension they offer. With modern point-n-click methods for creating and sharing video &#8211; now it&#8217;s easier than ever to do.</p>

<p>Remember, whether the words are written or spoken matters little, the words themselves are key. Cast the right ones and you&#8217;ll literally enchant your audience.</p>
<p>And when you add the power of visual presence by letting your audience see you, you elevate your communication to all new levels.</p>

Email marketing and company websites continue to be the most popular online marketing methods, but 45% plan to do more with online video and 35% said the same for mobile advertising.</p>
<p>Interest in using Facebook, Twitter and other social networks for business is up considerably over last year. While generating leads continues to be the top perceived benefit of social media, more businesses recognize the value of social media for improving the customer experience.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-441" title="cam" src="http://jamesburchill.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/cam.png" alt="Video Marketing" width="128" height="128" />Video marketing has been evolving on the Web for some time now.  From the viral videos of the comedians (think Red State Update) to the powerful short clips from giants like Apple, the WWW is definitely getting more visual.</p>
<p>To find information on how video marketing is best conducted, however, requires a lot of digging.  Stepping away from the usual &#8220;gurus&#8221; and &#8220;get-rich-quick&#8221; types and looking at what&#8217;s really working and happening is something that isn&#8217;t often done by commentators.  Mostly because these commentators are usually part of the guru stream themselves.</p>
<p>In trade journals and marketing conferences, though, professionals are talking a lot about video.  It&#8217;s the current &#8220;big thing&#8221; to capitalize on and is usually done hand-in-hand with social network marketing.<span id="more-439"></span></p>
<p><strong>What Really Works in Video Marketing</strong></p>
<p>Whatever your size or budget, there are some fundamental things that appear to work with video online.  First and foremost, aim for quality, but don&#8217;t over-emphasize it.  Studio-quality production is by no means a requirement for successful video marketing.  Outright garbage video, however, is just trash.</p>
<p>Quality video has several elements: picture clarity (not perfection, just clarity), good sound (again, not perfection), strong content, and a short duration.</p>
<p>The longer a video is, the less likely it is to be watched all the way through.  Optimally, most good online video that gets noticed and goes viral is almost always of commercial length ñ anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes.  Some exceptions occur, of course, but 5 minutes appears to be about the limit.</p>
<p>Content is still King on the Internet, though, so above all else, be sure your video is packed with it.  You don&#8217;t have to motormouth like an auctioneer, but keep on topic and deliver good information.</p>
<p><strong> What Doesn&#8217;t Work in Video Marketing</strong></p>
<p>In preparation for writing this article, I went through YouTube and watched a ton of videos based on a search for &#8220;product&#8221; and &#8220;opportunity.&#8221;  All I can say is that there are a lot of really, really badly made videos out there.</p>
<p>A lot of them.</p>
<p>Most have two things in common: they over-emphasize the &#8220;news&#8221; appeal of whatever they&#8217;re attempting to sell and they often put too much or too little effort into production.  If your customers wanted the news, they&#8217;d turn on CNN.  If they want low production values, they&#8217;ll watch cable access.   Be realistic with your production values, but don&#8217;t be so cheap that you attempt to make your video presentation using a 1Mp camera made in 1990 and your PC&#8217;s internal microphone.</p>
<p><strong> The Future of Video Marketing</strong></p>
<p>Video is not going anywhere.  It&#8217;s online and it&#8217;s here to stay.  It&#8217;s only going to get better, in fact.  So every marketing strategy, no matter its goals, will have to incorporate video in some way.  That might be directly, indirectly, or both.  Often, a video campaign can take place without the input or effort of the benefactor, in fact.</p>
<p>Apple Computers is becoming a master at this strategy as part of their overall mastery of Web 2.0 marketing.  Note how they manage to &#8220;leak&#8221; timely news and then sit back and watch the blogosphere, social networks, and video commentators take over and do their marketing for them.  For free.  The recent release (and lead-up to it) of the iPad is a great example of this in action.</p>
<p>Video marketing is definitely an integral part of the overall marketing strategy for future sales.  Broadly, it&#8217;s a part of the Web 2.0 revolution.  What do you think?</p>

<p>Such is the power of web video marketing. So the question becomes &#8220;How do I capitalize on this?&#8221; Here&#8217;s the good news, and it&#8217;s not as difficult (or as expensive) as you might think. You simply need a &#8230;</p>

<p><strong>The Secret to a &#8220;60 Second Video&#8221; &#8482;</strong></p>
<p>Contrary to popular theory, you don&#8217;t need expensive video production to take advantage of this powerful new marketing channel. The secret lies in one small detail&#8230; YOU ONLY NEED A VIDEO FILE FORMAT. That&#8217;s the key. Size does not matter either, in fact smaller is better!</p>
<p>OK, there are a few other secrets like how you tag the video, what you say in the description and so on, but armed with just a simple video (*TIP* the content should be useful but Hollywood Directors need not apply!) you can upload your entry onto Google&#8217;s video platform YouTube and benefit from the 20 Million plus people trafficking that site each month.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>According to the latest quarterly report from WebVisible, <strong>the average small business advertiser spent $2,149 on search advertising in Q4 2009, an increase of 30%</strong> over Q3 2009 and 111% over Q4 2008.</p>
<p><strong>Video capability was the fastest-growing website feature for small business advertisers over the past year</strong>, with 19% of advertisers showing video on their websites in Q4 2009, versus just 5% in Q4 2008. The data represents nearly $22 million in U.S. small business advertisers spending in Q4 2009 from more than 12,000 individual advertisers.</p>
<p><strong>Conversion rates also improved for small business advertisers, with 35.3% of clicks resulting in website conversion action,</strong> compared with 32% in Q3 2009 and 26.6% in Q4 2008.  Actions are predominantly calls, and also include sending emails or SMS texts, form fills, printed driving directions or video views. The average keyword count per small business advertiser increased by 21% in Q4 2009 over Q3 2009, to an average 67 keywords.</p>
<p>WebVisible CEO, Kirsten Mangers, says &#8220;<strong>&#8230; these numbers show increased confidence by small businesses in using search to gain leads, and increased ability to turn those leads into sales&#8230;</strong> &#8220;</p>
