Pearls of Wisdom
It’s Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend and in the spirit of the long weekend I thought I’d share a handful of my favourite thawtlets er, pearls of wisdom:
Be Found, Be Noticed… or Be History! - if you thought being on the web was still only for the big guys, you’re wrong. Trends are indicating that a web presence is even more important today than at any other time. And fusion is the new big thing *hint hint*
You can be 99.9% right and still be 100% wrong. I love this saying. It’s annoyingly true and with the complexity of today’s integrated marketing mix, it’s even more true.
Create quality web content for people, the search engines will do the rest. Nuff said. Stop trying to outsmart the search engines, you’re only working against yourself. Seriously, stop and think about the overarching strategy for a search engine (forgetting about the divisive approach to market segmentation for a minute) and you’ll see they are working to support your best interests (assuming you’re not a spammer of course!)
A well written content piece will eventually outperform a ‘tricked-out’ piece of “seo copy.” It’s the rule of Google. Like I just said, stop trying to outsmart the darned search engines.
More people trust what they read online (about you - said by other people) rather than what YOU say about you. This is scary and very real. Check out ‘crowd theory’ if you want to ruin your Friday.
Reaction is TOO LATE. Pre-emption is the only way to avoid looking like a “tool.” This advice is as old as the hills. It’s like shutting the gate after the horse has bolted. It’s like defending ONLY after being attacked - it’s expected. Be pre-emptive, act first.
You can be TOO CLEVER. Pimp your page with too much SEO and Google can tell. You think they don’t know “average” and “expert” seo skills? You know bad neighborhoods shoudl be avoided, but there are now ‘good neighborhoods’ that you might reconsider too. Google may not punish you for hanging out with the “really smart kids” but they’re figuring out that you’re cheating on your final exam because you’re getting help… Think about it.
There is no duplicate penalty. About time too. Google ‘outs’ the “duplicate penalty” boogeyman - there is no punishment, only indexing confusion.
Enjoy your weekend and watch out for more pearls of wisdom - LOL ![]()
Affordable Search Engine Optimization - Fact Or Fiction?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Internet Marketing are evolving. Every day more and more websites appear on the Internet touting their wares. Each month, advertisers commit more and more resources to the new frontier of online or Internet Marketing. Certain directories and other ‘classic’ information sources are losing ground - and losing it rapidly as this new medium picks up speed.
– What can be done? Plenty actually…if you know what to do. But first…

SEO is an important aspect of Internet Marketing, and what many people don’t understand is how time consuming and laborious much of SEO actually is. It’s not sexy, it’s not easy, it’s detailed, deliberate and some times down right dull. Woohoo! Did I ever pick a peachy career *wink*
But seriously, the analysis of information and how it connects to other clusters of information is a fascinating subject to some - and I’m one of those odd folks that gets a major kick out of helping others market themselves and their business online…
Which is why I’ve been tracking the chatter online about this new piece of ‘killer SEO’ software called Market Samurai. (click image to enlarge)

Google Suggest Severs Long Tail
Last week, Google added the Google Suggest feature to its main page. This might sound like a small change but I predict it will have a big effect on the traffic that you get from Google.
If you don’t know what “Google Suggest” is, skip to the end of this article for a short description.
So why do I predict Google Suggest will sever the ‘Long Tail?’
For Whom The Knol Tells

Authority, advertising and effective search. That’s what google is offering with Knols. Google Knol’s are new. They offer the apparent ease of unprecedented publication and distribution for your content. But what are they, how will they ultimately get used and will they survive long enough to make it into the mainstream of Internet Marketing? And for those interested in SEO/SEM there’s the million dollar question… do Knol’s get indexed by the search engines?
“What is a knol?”
A Knol is an authoritative article about a specific topic. It’s a single web page and it resides within the protected walls of Google’s dominion. Some experts are crying “foul” and claiming Google is a media company rather than a search company and is doing ‘this’ for the money, but frankly all the noise is somewhat moot. Google has already done it. The Knol is here, what we do with it, and what the implications are is still unfolding.
Knol SEO, Here We Go Again…
Filed under: Internet Marketing, SEO, Social Media, Strategic Content
Knol SEO is a popular new search phrase, and at the time of writing this post, I hold the #1 spot on Google for the phrase “knol seo“, and just in case Google sees fit to make a liar out of me, here’s a screen shot I just grabbed as proof
Why are Knols important?
It’s the old truism ‘content is king’ and Google proves making Knols to promote your business, products and services is a great way to achieve enhanced Internet Marketing exposure. And unlike Wikipedia…

“Show Me The Money… Now Godammit!”
I always believed this time would come: the web experience polarized into two distinct camps: (1) the grazers and (2) the ruthless researcher. A recent article by usability guru Jakob Nielsen seems to share my opinion too.
According to Mr Nielsen, web users are “getting more ruthless and selfish when they go online.” Nielsen’s annual web habits report also shows people are becoming much less patient when they go online too. Here are the report findings…
