Knoljacking - Hijacking Your Search Engine Rankings With Knols

Print Print

Google Knols are making an impact very quickly. In some cases “duplicate” content on a Knol outranks the original source content. This becomes a big issue if someone deliberately attempts to undermine you by doing the following:

  • Maliciously posting your content to their Knol and
  • Getting a couple of decent inbound links.

That’s it, these two actions alone can get you filtered out of the search results for your own authority content and web site! Take pre-emptive action and get writing your Knol’s. Alternatively consider hiring a professional and simply say “James, Make My Knol.”

Remember, Knols are a now one more element in the process of defending and developing your online brand and reputation and cannot (and should not) be ignored.

    James,

Great stuff! This may be a dumb question, but should a Knol be created for each article I have written or should all my articles be placed on the same Knol assuming it’s the same subject.

For example, one of my sites is a one page skin care mini site. I have around 40 articles driving traffic to that site. So, should I make one Knol with 40 articles or 40 articles with 40 separate Knols?

    Thanks,

    Steve Polk

    Steve,

If each of your articles focused on a different topic then I would recommend a Knol for each.

Of course, if there some grouping then I would cluster them together and cross link to the other Knols.

Bottom line, think of it this way - would it make sense to cluster/group certain articles together from a readers perspective? For example, if you have 6 articles on reducing pore size then I’d cluster these together into one large Knol and use the Knol formatting for suitable headings to create the table of contents and visual structure.

If this grouping was part of a bigger work - say skin care in general, then I’d create a Knol for the major topic and link out to the other knols - clustered accordingly.

I realize this probably requires a picture but hopefully you can follow my thinking here.

    James
