Search Engine Optimization’s fundamental basis is that of getting found and getting noticed when someone asks a question. Google, Yahoo and MSN have made fortunes based on trying to understand ‘What do you want? What do you seek? What do you need?’ And so on…

And in a rather ironic twist of fate, we are not the best equipped to ask (rather phrase) such important questions and so we often type vague, ill-conceived terms and phrases into the search engine - hoping it will somehow infer our true meaning, discern our “real” intent. And for the most part - it does!

Remember, all Internet marketing is a subset of classical marketing principles; sure, the technology has changed the tactics somewhat, but we’re still marketing to human beings.

Here’s something to think about as you go about your day:

The search engines want to present the best answer (results) to the seeker, and if your website was the “best answer” to someone’s question - what was the question?

If it’s not what you thought, it’s time to rethink … or hire a professional ;)
